The Priority of Love

Love is why God created us in the first place. God, who needed nothing, created us because He loved us. But the full extent of God’s love was shown not so much when He chose to create us, it was shown when we had become sinful and unlovely. After the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden, man was hopelessly lost in sin and separated from God. Because of God’s radical love for us, He implemented a plan to forgive us of our sins and restore us to an intimate relationship with Him. This plan was accomplished through the sacrifice of His beloved son, Jesus Christ. Jesus was the spotless lamb of God, who willingly left the throne of heaven to become a man, lived a sinless life and gave Himself as the ultimate sacrifice on the cross. As a result of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, our sins have been forgiven, we are restored to intimacy with God and we have the hope of eternal life. This truly is “Crazy Love.”
Because of the amazing gift of love and grace extended to us through Jesus, God expects us to respond to Him with hearts full of love and gratitude. The entirety of God’s laws can be reduced to two basic principles: love God and love others. When we love God completely and care for others as we care for ourselves, we fulfill the intent of all God’s laws and commands. These two commands form the heart of our response to God’s love. Through this study, we will examine what God thinks about love and the priority He places on this attribute for those who have committed their lives to follow Him.
