Looking for Satisfaction in Achievement
People today are still driven to find their satisfaction and fulfillment in the things of this life “under the sun.” Education, work and success may provide satisfaction for a moment, but Solomon says the pursuit of these things apart from God will only lead to futility and meaninglessness. While these pursuits are not bad in themselves, not one of them can ultimately keep a man from the grave. The last time we looked the death rate was still 100 %. If a man reaches the end of his life and has accumulated great wealth, but has no true meaning or satisfaction, Solomon says he is worse off than if he had never lived at all. Solomon meticulously takes us through this argument and then draws us to the one logical answer. Only by pursuing a relationship with the Lord and living your life for Him, can a man experience a meaningful life in the short time he is here on earth.
