Teaching at RiverLakes

The apostle Paul gives the admonition to a young pastor named Timothy in the second book addressed to him, to "Preach the Word." That is exactly what we strive to do on a weekly basis here at RiverLakes. We do not just tell funny stories or teach moral lessons. We are commanded by God to preach all of the Scriptures and all of His commands for his people, because in the words of Holy Scripture we find the answers to the most important questions any human being could ask. What is our purpose in life? Who is God? How can I get to heaven? Why is there pain and suffering in the world? How can I be a good person? These and many other questions are answered by the One who created us and loves us.

Our theology of preaching is possibly best summed up by the great Puritan, William Hull: "Let us not mount the pulpit to debate peripheral questions or to speculate on esoteric curiosities...We are there to preach Christ as Lord...That is our awesome assignment: to put into words, in such a way that our hearers will put into deeds, the new day that is ours in Christ Jesus our Lord." We couldn't say it any better!
