It has been very interesting to watch the media and public reaction to the sudden death of pop superstar Whitney Houston this past week. There was shock and deep sadness over her untimely death and much talk about how a person so beautiful and talented had wasted many years of her life with bad choices. While she was very successful from the world's perspective, she lived a life of many regrets and disappointments.

As I observed all the reactions to her death, I was reminded again of how fragile and fleeting our lives really are on this earth. Death is a destination that we all share. How, when and where we will die is completely in the hands of God. While we like to think we are in control, God is the one who ultimately is in control of the brief time we have on this earth. In fact, the reality is our next breath occurs only by the grace of God.

Knowing that our time is limited on this earth should motivate us to live life purposefully and to its fullest. As Whitney Houston found out pursuing the pleasures and goals of this world and striving to meet others expectations of you will only lead to a life of frustration, disappointment and regret. The only way I know to find true fulfillment and peace is to submit your life to God by accepting the gift of love and grace He offers us through His Son, Jesus Christ. It is only by committing each day to live your life in faith and trust in Jesus that you will truly find purpose, meaning and fulfillment. God made us all with the desire for relationship with Him and it is only when we commit to pursue this relationship and live for Him daily that our lives will be fulfilled, vibrant and complete.
